Termination of the contract frees Ukraine from the obligation of its execution and does not affect her rights.
The Verkhovna Rada has terminated the Agreement on friendship with Russia. For the corresponding bill No. 0206 voted 277 deputies at the plenary session on Thursday, 6 December.
In the explanatory note to the bill stated that the aggression of Russia has caused a substantial violation of most articles of the contract, as Ukraine has systematically informed the Russian party. However, the reaction from Moscow followed.
“Cease from 1 April 2019, the Treaty on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation”, – stated in the text of the bill.
It also indicates that termination of the contract frees Ukraine from the obligation of its execution and does not affect the rights of Ukraine.
It is noted that the law comes into force on the day following the day of its publication.
Recall, December 3, President Petro Poroshenko submitted to the Parliament as urgent a draft law on the termination of the Treaty of friendship with Russia. This document was signed on 31 may 1997 and was concluded for a period of 10 years. The contract is automatically renewed, unless one of the parties notifies the other in writing of the desire to terminate it.
Earlier, the Minister of foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin stated that Ukraine will not sever diplomatic relations with Russia in connection with the attack of Russian troops on Ukrainian ship near Kerch Strait. At the same time, he said, will soon be terminated approximately 40 bilateral treaties with the Russian Federation.
