Putin instructed to inform the United States.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree according to which Russia suspends execution of the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles (INF Treaty), concluded between the USSR and the USA in 1987.
The document States that the decision on cancellation of the contract due to “the need for urgent action in connection with the violation by the United States of America of its obligations under the Treaty between the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the United States of America on the elimination of their intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles of December 8, 1987”.
Russia has suspended the INF Treaty as long as the US is not “will eliminate the infringements committed by them of obligations” or till the termination of the agreement.
Putin instructed the foreign Ministry to direct the States parties to the agreement notice of suspension of its execution.
The decree entered into force from the day of its signing.
February 1, 2019, the Secretary of state Mike Pompeo announced that on 2 February the US withdraws from the Treaty on intermediate and shorter-range missiles. The same day President Donald trump said he wants to sign a new contract. NATO said that the decision on the U.S. withdrawal from the agreement will enter into force six months if Russia during this time will not destroy all cruise missiles 9М729.
On 2 February the Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov told Putin that the United States violated the INF Treaty since 1999. After that, Putin said that in response to the U.S. withdrawal from the INF Treaty leaves Russia.
The agreement of 1987 had forbidden the parties to manufacture ballistic and cruise missiles, ground-based range from 500 km to 5.5 thousand km, testing and deployment. According to the Americans, 9М729 was tested on a range of more than 500 km.
