Microsoft is working on a new version of the Windows operating system, which will be limited in terms of functionality, but because of this it can run even on inexpensive hardware. This is not a new idea, before Microsoft has attempted to release such a “light weight” versions. You may recall, for example, experiments with Windows RT or Windows S. But this time used a different approach.
According to reliable sources, Microsoft intends to create a new version of the operating system, which is designed to withstand growing competition from Google Chrome OS. The Lite version will be the initial decision of the operating system Core, which can replace long Windows 10.
In short, for the Core will have a different approach to the structure of the OS. It will be a modular system that will allow Microsoft to develop a single unit, which you can then add individual elements and features in accordance with the needs of the user. Thanks to it one the base OS can be used to service a large variety of devices – from entry-level smartphones to high-end workstations, is used to create multimedia content. Moreover, as mentioned above the Lite version is focused on productive tablets and laptops entry – level segment, which is now actively used by Chrome OS.
OS Lite (even devoid of the traditional brand of Windows) will be able to only run universal apps Universal Windows Program and progressive web applications. Full desktop demanding applications like Photoshop are unlikely to be supported. This approach is reminiscent of the system apps and Chrome extensions. Something similar was supposed to be for Windows RT, but at that time the users and the ecosystem was not yet ready for such restrictions. Now many users are quite comfortable can work with the operating system built around the browser and relying on the use of various online sarsam. Some companies even offer the ability to play demanding games on weak devices when the actual processing of the gameplay is done on remote servers.
While there is no information on when Microsoft officially announced the operating system Lite for computer systems with restricted system resources.
