The basis of the qubits therein serve superconducting materials
National research technological University (nust) “MISIS” announced the launch of Russia’s first prototype of a quantum computer. The configuration of the prototype includes two qubit have been the superconducting materials.
During the tests, the computer performed a quantum algorithm for solving the problem of search, known as Grover’s algorithm. In the ideal case, a quantum computer can find the correct solution to this problem in one call to the function f(x) with a probability of 100%. Due to the small number of qubits prototype is too simple to solve applied problems. However, it exceeded the threshold of probability of correct response equal to 50%, showing the figure of 53%.
According to participants of the project implemented at nust “MISIS” from 2016, a quantum computer using superconducting materials — a better system in comparison with analogues on individual atoms or ions. Aluminum qubits size of 300 µm, developed in nust “MISIS”, in contrast to the qubits on the individual atoms, it is impossible to “lose”, and in contrast to the qubits on the ions, they can build non-linear.
The processor for the quantum computer is engineered in nust “Misa” and is made in the MSTU. Bauman. For his work in the lab, nust “MISIS” built a unique complex of equipment cryostats enables operation at temperatures up to -273,14°C, i.e. close to absolute zero.
The next important steps towards the creation of a practically useful quantum computer demonstration are reduced to the size of a few tens of qubits versions of applied quantum algorithms and the demonstration of quantum error correction. By the way, for error correction with superconducting qubits fit better than others, because of them you can build a two-dimensional structure with local interactions.
